Ozone and Candida
The Rise of Candida Infections
Candida infections have become increasingly common with no end in sight. Immuno suppressive drugs for autoimmune disease, corticosteroids and antibiotic use are the three main medical culprits in the rapid spread of medically induced fungal infections. The standard American diet of heavily processed, chemically laden foods filled to the brim with sugar are the lifestyle factor which contributes the fuel needed for a rapid growth rate and weak immune response. An intestinal microbiome that is damaged from diet and medications provides the perfect environment in which to grow.
Recognizing Candida Symptoms
What are the symptoms of a candida fungal infection? Thick white coated (fuzzy) tongue, foggy thinking, poor memory, fatigue, itching, gas, bloating, constipation, vaginal discharge, enlarged prostate and more. The problem is that candida symptoms overlap with parasite infections, heavy metal toxicity, irritable bowel syndrome and others to the point that it may be hard to determine what is really going on.
Challenges in Testing for Candida
In most cases, I have found that its some if not all of the above and you have to test for everything or forgo the expense of testing and just begin treating the issue. The problem with testing is that its not always accurate, for example the blood test for Candida Antibodies isn’t always positive when there are obvious symptoms. I believe this to be an issue with the persons immune system not fighting the infection which would normally create the antibodies to detect. I have seen time and again symptoms resolved by treating the fungus even when testing says there’s nothing wrong.
Candida’s Invasive Nature
Candida is an invasive species of fungus which lives just about everywhere, your skin, intestinal tract, reproductive tract, sinuses and ear canals. The problem is when its growth rate isn’t kept in check by the immune system and other beneficial microbes (good flora). Once it has the ability to spread unchecked it can invade the body and create colonies of fungus. The colonies can root into areas that most physicians say is impossible. I have had so many people tell me, my doctor said this infection isn’t possible or I would be so sick I’d be hospitalized. Well, think again because after going through treatment they felt better than they felt in years!
Direct Ozone Applications for Candida
As I covered in the blog post on Rectal Insufflation with Ozone, Candida can be killed by ozone when it is exposed to ozone gas for a prolonged period of time, no less than 20 minutes. This is why rectal insufflation is of direct benefit to lower GI infections. Vaginal Insufflation with ozone is perfect for women who suffer from vaginal infections. When it comes to the skin, ozone saunas are a direct gas exposure and for specific limbs requiring treatment, ozone bagging is perfect. All provide ozone gas to the candida spores in sufficient time to kill them directly. What about indirect benefits of ozone on candida in other parts of the body?
Systemic Benefits of Ozone Therapy
For systemic candidiasis Major AutoHemo Therapy with ozone is amazingly helpful. Granted that the ozone gas itself isn’t going to have the 20 minute minimum time exposure to the blood, the key here is immune activation. Ozone interacts with the white blood cells during the treatment to energize their activity level. It also has a profound ability to strip biofilms (in most cases) from microbes. Biofilms act as a “cloak of invisibility” for microbes allowing them to travel through the body undetected by immune defenses. Once stripped of biofilms, white blood cells can attack the invaders and create a healthy defense to future infections. This is incredibly important because we want the immune system to do the work, not just the treatments alone. If we rely on the treatments themselves we’ll always be dependent, we want the immune system to be robust to prevent future problems.
Topical Ozone Products
Ozone Soap, Ozone Lotion, Ozone Skin Salve all have benefits to areas of skin infections, however they are somewhat limited in fighting candida directly but they do help and should be used. The nice part about ozone is that it does not kill beneficial bacteria on the skin or within the body so the healthy microbiome that we want stays intact.
Important Dietary Guidelines
When anyone is fighting yeast or fungal infections I always tell them NOT to take probiotics or eat fermented foods until after the infection is cleared. Yeast and fungus FEED on fermentation, kill them first, then re-establish the microbiome with additional pre and probiotics. I have read so many books on fighting candida and most all of them say, take probiotics to help, they’re wrong.
Dealing with Parasites and Heavy Metals
Another key point to remember is that as mentioned in paragraph 2, theres usually multiple problems to include parasites and heavy metals. Kill fungus and parasites together, then detox the heavy metals, because as they die they release more toxins and heavy metals. Always take binders during an anti-fungal, anti-parasitical program to decrease the toxic burden. Make sure your bowels are moving every single day and drink plenty of water to flush your system.
Supporting Therapies and Detox Timeline
Additional therapies such as Intravenous Glutathione, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate, Vitamin C and B Vitamins are extremely helpful if available. A complete treatment program should include Ozone and nutrient IV’s, Ozone Sauna, Ozone Soap, anti-parasitical/anti fungal herbs or medications, supportive supplements including binders, a diet low in carbohydrates/ sugar, high in protein/fat, regular exercise and colonics or enemas. Each treatment plan will vary in intensity and duration but what’s important to know is that you won’t start feeling a huge difference until 2-3 weeks after the program is complete. This is the normal time it takes to flush all the chemicals from the body.
Heavy Metal Testing and Follow-Up
Follow up this treatment plan with a Heavy Metals Provocation Test using IV Chelation and a minimum 6 hour urine collection. This is the only accurate way to determine heavy metal toxicity and know if you require a series of IV Chelation treatments.
